Following on from the media blitz on the cosmetic injectables industry breaching advertising rules and as we predicted two months ago, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) have announced they have commenced a crackdown on the advertising of cosmetic injectables. The TGA have established the Targeted Compliance Unit (TCU) which will address the increase in volume of non-compliant advertisements.

An overview of the TGA's planned cosmetic injectable mailout has been distributed by the TGA. "This TCU will concentrate on monitoring and addressing non-compliant advertising, by focussing on identified non-compliance outside our published compliance priorities," the overview stated.

"An initial, 50 reported individuals and entities will receive letters in the first round, the remaining reports will be contacted in a future round."

A report we are producing is currently showing close to 100% non-compliance to TGA advertising rules in the cosmetic injectables industry. Given this, the proactive approach from the TGA means you don't want to learn you aren't compliant from a regulator letter. We offer a service where we use proprietary software to scan injector websites that are advertising cosmetic injectables. This scan checks against a number of terms which are used to advertise S4 medicines, and produces the number of potential breaches. These potential breaches are outlined in a clean, easy-to-read report where it is easy to identify where each term is located.

A number of injector clinics have already commissioned from us a fast and affordable scan of their website, meaning their website's exposure to TGA action could be reduced compared to those who are not compliant. Some injectors believed they were fully compliant with the TGA advertising rules, but our scan showed otherwise. It is important injectors reduce their exposure as much as possible.
